FALL APPLES

GINGER GOLD Harvest Date: Late August- A large, early Golden Delicious cross which is crisp and tangy and has a much higher sugar content than the earlier varieties. This blushing Golden is good for pies, outstanding in apple sauce, and wonderful for eating fresh.

MACINTOSH Harvest Date: Early September- The old time Canadian favorite. Discovered in Ontario in I820 make this the oldest commercial variety that we grow today. Its distinctive sweet/tart flavor keeps this a popular choice for our customers.

SILKEN Harvest Date: Early September- This new variety from the Summerland Research Station is almost white-yellow when tree ripened. Small to medium in size but very crisp and sweet with amazing great taste!

DAVISON GALA Harvest Date: Early September- Discovered on our farm this Gala is not only redder in color but stays crisper long than regular Gala strains. Available about one week earlier than Royal Gala.

ROYAL GALA Harvest Date: Early September- This relative newcomer from New Zealand has taken the apple world by storm with its distinctive orange/red stripy color and unique flavor. We grow them crisp and sweet!

ARLET Harvest Date: Early September- This is a Davison Orchards exclusive that was imported from Switzerland, a cross with Ida Red and Golden Delicious. It seems especially well suited to our warm location, developing with great color and sweetness to go along with its outstanding flavor. Our cool nights at harvest enhance its natural crispness making Arlet one of our best storage apples. You’ll love it!

HONEY CRISP Harvest Date: Mid September- Our newest planted variety. This exciting apple holds all the promise of its name. This large apple is a great keeper and  is sweet and snappy, you’ll want to sample this one!! (quantities limited)

GOLDEN DELICIOUS Harvest Date: Mid September- Originally discovered in Virginia in I9I6. Davison Orchards has become known for Goldens which we tree-ripen, unlike the supermarkets, allowing the apples to develop full flavor and sweetness with very low acidity. Handle them gently! Goldens have thin skin and bruise easily.

SPARTAN Harvest Date: Mid September- An excellent all-purpose apple with a crisp, snow white flesh and unusually small core. The Spartan variety was developed in Summerland, BC and is cross of McIntosh and Newton.

EMPIRE Harvest Date: Mid September- A crisp, juicy apple originating in I966 from New York State. It is a McIntosh and Red Delicious cross and is excellent for fresh eating and cooking.
