Completed Harvest
Since the end of May we have been bringing in the harvest. Beginning with strawberries (doesn’t that seem like a distant memory?) we spent the entire summer and autumn gathering in the fruits and vegetables from our fields: sugar snap peas, wala-wala onions, juicy tomatoes, sweet corn, apples of all kinds, pears, squash… I could go on and on! Now we have completed the task. The trees are bare and the fields are being tilled, ready for a winter's rest. The end of harvest brings with it an interesting mix of emotions. There is relief that the crops are safely out of the elements, thankfulness for the abundance God provided, and pride in a job well-done. However, there is also a hint of lostness as the breakneck speed grinds to a halt, emotional reflection as the year’s work is pondered over, as well as a sense of anticipation of what is to come. Because we market our own produce, there is also a feeling of “done but not done” as we finish up the last week of having our market open to all of you.
