View in browser Pears and Apples and Caramel, OH MY! As August comes to an end this week, we jump with earnest into harvest time in the orchard. While we are enjoying a hot last week of summer, the evenings have cooled as the sun makes its descent a few minutes earlier each day. Did you know that the cool evenings and crisp mornings are integral to the apple crop? As the temperatures dip, the cool air brings out the color in the apple, helping the apple to finish the ripening process and getting it ready for harvest. This week is hot, but the cool weather is coming - just perfect timing for our harvest team.    While the big apple crop is yet to be picked, the crew has already brought in hundreds of bins in the last two weeks. This beautiful summer has been the most pleasant I can remember with moderate heat and some rain mixed in. This has been comfortable for us, but also means the trees haven’t been stressed - and now there is a huge crop to show for it!     Last week my brother Lance and his crew picked the Bartlett Pear crop - it turned out to be our biggest pear harvest ever - very satisfying after a tough year last year. We are celebrating this pear crop with a new product in the bakery - Mini Pear Cheesecakes. These little cuties are layered with streusel and pears and the combo with the cheesecake is dynamite. Try them in the Cafe or take them home from the market and let us know what you think!   There’s one thing that pairs perfectly with all these pears and apples that are rolling in from the orchard. Can you guess what that is? Yes, you guessed it – caramel! Back by popular demand is our Caramel Apple Bowl. We are launching it this weekend from 11-3 in the tent outside the market. I can already taste that warm caramel, crisp apple, and creamy whipped cream! We will also be serving Caramel Apple Crumble pie in the bakery and slice in the Farmhouse Cafe.    U-pick Apple Tours begin this week and will continue to run Wednesday through Sunday until the end of September. Come experience the harvest yourself by joining in on that fun.    As the long weekend approaches, we reflect on the abundance of fresh food surrounding us.
